Labor Day Weekend – Charlestown, Rhode Island

August 30, 31st, September 1 2019

Countdown to
Rhythm & Roots

Thank you to all who made the 21stR & R Festival one to remember!

People often ask me how one family can put together Rhythm & Roots every year, and I always say that our passion for roots music is the driving force, but it’s the volunteers who do the heavy lifting.

Coordinating three days of music and dancing, with 1,500 campers, dozens of musicians on three stages and numerous food vendors and artisans, involves handling literally thousands of tasks at Ninigret Park, big and small. If not for our extended family of 300+ volunteers, it just couldn’t happen. I thank each one of you.

Thanks also go to the fans who come back year after year, making plans even before they know the lineup. Nothing makes me happier than introducing music lovers to something new. That’s why I enjoy bringing up-and-coming acts to Rhythm & Roots, like teenage blues phenoms from Newfoundland, Canada, Nick Earle and Joe Coffin, along with longtime crowd favorites, Taj Mahal, Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Asleep at the Wheel, Donna the Buffalo, Dustbowl Revival and so many others.

The weather could not have been better this year, making everyone’s job easier. Once again, the amazing musicians, sponsors, vendors and volunteers came together to create a musical experience that will be talked about for years to come. We’re already planning for the 22nd Rhythm & Roots, Aug. 30 – Sept. 1, 2019. Let us know who you’d like to hear, and we’ll keep you informed as the lineup develops.
