Wayne Singleton Bio

Rooted deeply in the rich heritage of Opelousas-Lawtell zydeco traditions, Wayne Singleton & Same Ol 2 Step have earned their place as authentic torchbearers of Creole culture. Mentored by the legendary Roy Carrier, founder Wayne Singleton carries forward the legacy of a sound filled with history, soul, and rhythm.

At just 36, Wayne has already toured extensively across the United States and Europe, performing at renowned festivals such as Blast from the Bayou at Strawberry Park, Gator by the Bay, Daphne Zydeco Festival, Oshkosh Sawdust Days, and even the Cajun & Zydeco Festival in Raamsdonksveer, Holland. His band’s mission is clear—preserve the heritage of zydeco music while inspiring the next generation to keep it alive.

Same Ol 2 Step’s music is a perfect reflection of this mission. Over their 12-year span, they’ve released seven acclaimed albums, including the crowd-favorite “Gotta Be Me,” which Offbeat Magazine praised for its “cool descending guitar chords and sliding keys, showcasing a band that has found its course.” Other standout releases include Urban Creole (2021), Built Creole Tough (2016), and I Am The Creole Truth (2015). Their discography blends tradition with a vibrant energy that keeps audiences dancing and asking for more.

Beyond the stage, Wayne Singleton is dedicated to teaching younger generations about the history and importance of zydeco music. Frequently visiting schools, he introduces students to key zydeco instruments like the accordion and rubboard while emphasizing the value of education, goal-setting, and hard work. For Wayne, preserving zydeco is about more than music—it’s about inspiring purpose and pride in culture.

Committed to creating a positive and welcoming space for all, Same Ol 2 Step supports a smoke-free environment and proudly endorse the Let’s Be Totally Clear campaign. For those seeking an authentic zydeco experience and joyful connection to Creole roots, Wayne Singleton & Same Ol 2 Step are the real deal. Prepare to dance, laugh, and fall in love with the timeless rhythms of Louisiana heritage.
