Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Steve Earle is a true icon of American music and one of the most compelling storytellers of his generation. Mentored by legends Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Earle quickly carved out his own legacy with songs covered by icons like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, and The Pretenders. His breakthrough album Guitar Town (1986) topped the country charts and remains a cornerstone of the Americana genre.
Earle’s influence only deepened in the years that followed. His 1988 hit “Copperhead Road” was recognized as an official state song of Tennessee in 2023. Albums like The Revolution Starts… Now (2004), Washington Square Serenade (2007), and TOWNES (2009) earned consecutive Grammy Awards, while his most recent release, Jerry Jeff (2022), honored his mentor Jerry Jeff Walker with heartfelt renditions of Walker’s songs.
Beyond his music, Earle is a celebrated author of the novel I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive and the short story collection Dog House Roses. He’s also a sought-after producer, working on landmark albums for artists like Joan Baez (Day After Tomorrow) and Lucinda Williams (Car Wheels on a Gravel Road).
A versatile artist, Earle has graced the screen in The Wire and Tremé, performed in acclaimed theatrical productions like Samara and Coal Country, and created scores praised for their emotional depth. He is also the host of Hard Core Troubadour on SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country, where his storytelling extends to the airwaves.
