Roomful of Blues Bio

Roomful of Blues is a world-renowned, horn-powered, house-rocking blues band that has been delighting audiences for over 55 years. Formed in 1967 by a group of southern Rhode Island teenagers, these local legends are the perfect addition to the Rhythm & Roots Festival!

Described by DownBeat magazine as “in a class by themselves” and by the great Count Basie as “the hottest blues band I’ve ever heard,” Roomful of Blues delivers a bone-shaking mix of original songs and carefully chosen covers. Their winning combination of jump, swing, R&B, and proto rock ‘n’ roll remains their calling card, as does their unmatched ability to fill a festival dance floor.

Over the decades, their impeccable musicianship has earned them five GRAMMY Award nominations, seven Blues Music Awards, and a non-stop touring schedule alongside legends like B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Clapton. Today, the band continues to evolve and thrive under the leadership of master guitarist Chris Vachon. The stellar horn section still features alto and tenor saxophonist Rich Lataille—who joined the group in 1970—while the sweet and soulful lead vocalist D.D. Bastos adds a bright, fresh dimension to their jazzy, jump-blues roots.

Get ready to stomp your feet and clap your hands—Roomful of Blues has never sounded fresher or stronger.
