Old-Fashioned Aces Bio
Blake Miller & the Old-Fashioned Aces are breathing new life into an old sound at Rhythm & Roots 2026. This powerhouse trio delivers traditional Cajun music in its purest form—whether performing as an acoustic trio or a full electric band, they’re among the finest musicians playing Cajun music today.
While many artists push the boundaries of Louisiana French music, the Aces comfortably nest within the well-worn tracks of authentic Cajun tradition. From old fiddle tunes to classic dance floor packers and bilingual country favorites, their music is comfort food for any Cajun music fan.
Blake Miller
Blake Miller hails from a multi-generational musical family in Iota, Louisiana. He learned accordion, fiddle, and other traditional Cajun instruments from his grandpa Larry Miller (the world-renowned accordion maker of Bon Cajun Accordions), his father, uncles, and the late local accordion player Kenneth Thibodeaux. He honed his skills at jam sessions at D.I.’s Cajun Restaurant and Augusta Cajun Week in Elkins, West Virginia.
Blake started playing regular dances at 14, and by 17, he was touring internationally with bands like the Red Stick Ramblers, Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole, and Pine Leaf Boys. Today, you’ll find him performing with the Revelers, Balfa Toujours, the Daiquiri Queens, the Lafayette Rhythm Devils, and of course, the Old-Fashioned Aces with his wife Amelia Biere. He also hosts the bilingual public radio show La Lou Jukebox on KRVS 88.7 FM and teaches at music camps and UL Lafayette.
Amelia Biere
Originally from Wisconsin, Amelia was exposed to traditional music early through her father’s vibrant music community. After moving to Minneapolis for school and attending regular Cajun dances, she picked up the guitar. Following years of mentorship from Twin Cities musicians and attending Cajun music camps in Louisiana and West Virginia, she moved to Lafayette—the heart of Cajun country.
She and Blake founded the Old-Fashioned Aces in 2017. Since then, Amelia has won CFMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year and become a fixture on the Lafayette music scene, performing with bands like Chère Elise, the Luke Huval Band, and country band Grampa.
AJ Srubas
AJ Srubas grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, playing Irish music in a family band. After high school, he studied fiddle in Ireland but discovered old-time music through his brother’s claw hammer banjo playing—and he was instantly hooked.
Now based in Minneapolis, AJ has been playing old-time music for over a decade. He performs old-time fiddle with Steam Machine and Cajun fiddle and pedal steel guitar with the New Riverside Ramblers. When he’s not playing music, AJ works as an apprenticing violin bow maker and organizes The Monday Night Square Dance and other Minnesota festivals. He teaches privately and at events like the Central Rockies Old-time Music Association’s summer festival and Berkeley Old-time Music Gathering.
