Lettuce Bio
Lettuce is a six-member, GRAMMY®-nominated musical group that blends the rich traditions of funk with influences from hip-hop, rock, psychedelia, jazz, soul, jam, go-go, and the avant-garde. Formed in 1992 by Berklee College of Music alumni, the band includes Adam Deitch, Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, Erick “Jesus” Coomes, Ryan Zoidis, Eric “Benny” Bloom, and Nigel Hall. Over their three-decade-long career, Lettuce has released a dynamic discography, including albums such as Outta Here (2002), Crush (2015), and their latest work, VIBE (2022), which is available digitally and showcases a continuous 48-minute session of raw, improvised music.
With VIBE, Lettuce pushes creative boundaries, delivering a spontaneous musical experience that blurs genre lines and embraces a mix of jazz chords, psychedelic influences, soulful horns, and hip-hop elements. Recorded without prior planning, editing, or overdubs, the album captures a fully improvised and uplifting sound that encapsulates their innovative spirit. As saxophonist Ryan Zoidis describes, the session is “a true spontaneous musical expression” that exemplifies their artistic evolution. Lettuce continues to cement their legacy as trailblazers in the world of funk and improvisational music.
