JD Simo & Luther Dickinson Bio
Blending amplified American roots music with a contemporary edge, JD Simo and Luther Dickinson are a powerhouse duo redefining the genre. Both celebrated as guitar icons in their own right, Simo and Dickinson bring decades of musical expertise to the stage, drawing inspiration from hill country blues, swamp rock, spirituals, and even Afrobeat. The result is a vibrant, eclectic sound that’s as authentic as it is electrifying.
Their debut collaborative album, Do The Rump!, showcases this dynamic partnership. Featuring eight raw and explosive tracks recorded live at Simo’s Nashville studio without overdubs or production tricks, the record is pure musical spontaneity at its finest. Supported by drummer Adam Abarashoff, whose jazz and Afrobeat expertise injects an unexpected energy, the tracks capture the spirit of improvisation and instinctual groove.
JD Simo and Luther Dickinson first crossed paths as touring members of Phil Lesh and Friends, where an undeniable musical chemistry emerged. Simo, known for his solo work and contributions to Jack White, Beyoncé, and Chris Isaak, found his style naturally complementing that of Dickinson, co-founder of the Grammy-winning North Mississippi Allstars and renowned guitarist for acts like Black Crowes and John Hiatt. “Playing with Luther felt as easy as water flowing down a river,” Simo reflects.
Together, Simo and Dickinson have ignited a unique creative spark. Whether trading fiery guitar solos or reimagining old-school favorites as modern anthems, they deliver a live set brimming with groove, soul, and pure energy—a must-see for any Rhythm and Roots Festival audience.
