We welcome genre-spanning Son Volt to their first appearance at Rhythm & Roots! Their music is a combination of alt-country/blues/Americana/folk with a lot of present-day social commentary thrown in for good measure. Son Volt’s 25 year history has seen a number of personnel changes, but many past and new members have joined in the band’s 2019 CD, Union, on Thirty Tigers Records. It is full of both well-honed protest music and plain old driving “alt-country/blues/rock” good sounds, and the thirteen new songs written by founder Jay Farrar confront our turbulent politics and articulate the clarity and comfort music can offer in the tumult.
