Rhythm & Roots Volunteer Crews

They are for RETURNING VOLUNTEERS ONLY.
CAMPING CREW sets up and maintains festival camping areas. Work includes
setting up roadways, helping campers locate camping spots, and ensuring that
campers comply with rules throughout event. Crew begins Tuesday to map out
the camping areas. Crew runs through Labor Day Monday for tear down. This
crew operates 24 hours a day, so expect at least one "graveyard" shift. Most
shifts begin on Friday, but a mini-crew is needed Tuesday through Monday.

EMS CREW (PRE-ARRANGED) provides first aid and emergency medical services
to patrons and staff. Must be an EMT or other health care professional
licensed to practice in Rhode Island. Shifts begin at 8 am Friday. After

KITCHEN & BEVERAGE CREW (formerly called Food Crew) volunteers set up and
keep the volunteer hospitality tent stocked. They also sell juice, water and
snacks to festival patrons at our Beverage Booths. You may indicate a
preference of “KITCHEN” or BEVERAGE,” however, crew members may be called
upon to work in either area. Volunteers should arrive Thursday
afternoon/evening for setup, orientation and scheduling. Shifts begin on
Friday, but we need a mini-crew on Thursday for set up. Crew Chief: Susan

GATE CREW handles front gate security issues: checking wristbands and
ensuring that prohibited items (such as glass and alcohol) are not brought
into the festival area. Crew members search coolers and other packages in a
friendly manner. Crew members also cover the Beach and Vendor gates. Must
have a good way of dealing with people. Full crew meeting Friday at 2pm.

INFO CREW provides information about the festival and the surrounding South
County, RI area. Conducts festival survey. Helps ensure that the public has
a pleasant experience. Handles lost and found items. Must like dealing with
people, have good communication skills, and be resourceful. Crew meeting at
2:00 on Friday. Shifts begin Friday at 4pm. Crew Chief: TBA. Questions?

TRAFFIC CREW handles parking, maintains safe traffic flow, and ensures
general vehicular safety around the site. This crew operates 24 hours, so
expect one "graveyard" shift. Bring flashlight, rain gear, sunscreen,
protective shoes, etc. Bikes are very useful here! Volunteers should arrive
Thursday afternoon/evening for check-in and assignment. Shifts begin at 9am
Friday. Meeting at 8:30 Friday morning for those working first shift. Crew

SHOWER CREW monitors and maintains public showers. Shifts begin on Friday.

SITE CREW sets up the festival site including tents, camping and stages
prior to the festival. Maintains and troubleshoots throughout the festival;
tears down site after the festival. Requires heavy lifting. Construction,
carpentry, or event set up experience required. This crew is almost entirely
made up of returning volunteers. Shifts begin one full week before the

TICKET SALES CREW sells tickets and places wristband on customer. Two types of positions available. Cashier: Must have computer knowledge and typing skills as well as experience in handling $$ and credit card machines. Runner: Exchanging the costumers e-ticket, $$ or Credit Card with the cashier for a wristband to be applied to the customers wrist. You must be physically fit, as you will be on your feet for 4 hours each day. Bring a flashlight, rain gear, sunscreen, etc. 4 required 4hr shifts (total 16hrs). Must work one morning, one afternoon, one evening, one night shift. Graveyard shifts available (mdnt-8am). Volunteers should arrive Thursday afternoon/evening for check-in. TRASH/RECYCLING CREW picks up trash, recycles and keeps festival areas
clean. Some heavy lifting required. Bring work gloves, rain gear, sunscreen,
protective shoes and a great sense of humor! Shifts begin Friday. Volunteers
should arrive Thursday afternoon/evening for check in, orientation and

VIP CREW checks in and provides information to volunteers, guests and the press. Job requires strong
people skills and good knowledge of the festival. Must work 4 hours per day including one 3-hr morning shift, one 3-hr afternoon shift and one 3-hr evening shift plus three 1-hr late night shifts. Shifts begin Thursday at 3pm. A few volunteers are needed Thursday at
noon to set up. Note: This crew is almost always filled with returning crew

MISC (PRE-APPROVED) CREWS: This includes Main Stage, Workshop, Dance,
Family, Bayou Bucks, Photography, and Office Crews. You MUST BE PRE-APPROVED
(by your crew chief or supervisor) to sign up for one of these crews! If
you’re on one of these crews, PLEASE fill out an online application so that
we’ll be ready for you when you arrive. Also note a separate choice has
been created for each crew in the menu box for CHOICES in the online
application. Note: Main Stage, Dance and Workshop Stage Crews are open only to returning volunteers. If you are on one of these crews, please sign up on line THEN contact your crew chief directly to verify your placement.
